Swedish designer furniture repaired
In addition to repairing all the common construction substrates for contractors and building owners across the country, Plastic Surgeon is also well accomplished at restoring the furniture which fills properties – as a leading law practice can testify.
Michelmores, one of the leading law firms in the South West, and with offices in Exeter, Bristol and London has used Plastic Surgeon to undertake several separate contracts, repairing both office furniture and, most recently, 30 canteen chairs.
The scope of the work has ranged from stripping, rubbing down and re-lacquering wood grain tables, and re-spraying the brightly painted chairs made by Swedish designer, Fritz Hansen, to invisibly mending an executive leather chair which had a tear in it: a skill that draws on Plastic Surgeon’s early origins in the motor industry.
Mike Reading, the Finisher who has carried out the majority of the work, recounts: “The earlier work involved preparing and re-lacquering woodgrain tables in the offices and repainting a bright white and lime green computer desk which we did on a Saturday morning to save inconveniencing the staff.
“For the most recent project though – re-spraying the white and blue canteen chairs – I set up one of our portable spray booths in Michelmores’ carpark; and all the rubbing down and painting was carried out in that.
“There was some deep damage on the tables which had to be made good with our Ultra-Premium filler and the wood grain had to be hand painted in again. With the chairs it was minor chips and scratches I had to deal with, so I smoothed the old surface back and feathered out the areas so it would not show. I mixed the colours by eye using the base pigments we carry in in the vans, and applied them using the Devilbiss detail gun. It all worked out well.”
Andy Heard, Facilities Manager for Michelmores’ Exeter HQ, comments: “The chairs in our canteen, along with a lot of the other furniture is by the Swedish designer Fritz Hansen, and to have replaced the 30 which were in a poor state would have cost close to £16K – Plastic Surgeon resprayed them for £2,500.
“The Finishers have done a first rate job on not just the chairs, but also on half a dozen tables and a large L-shaped computer desk during previous visits. Even a leather chair with a tear was taken away and brought back within a couple of days; you really just can’t see where the work has been carried out. We have been very pleased with all of the work and would have no hesitation in recommending Plastic Surgeon’s services to other businesses.”
