Resorts World is a £200 million hotel, leisure and retail development being built alongside the NEC, the UK’s largest exhibition complex. With all the facilities including a casino nearing completion, the main contractor called on Plastic Surgeon to help carry out snagging operations within the hotel and speed up the handover process.

THE CHALLENGES

Involvement with such a large site where dozens of trade sub-contractors were working presented significant problems of coordination in order to maximise the effectiveness of Plastic Surgeon’s efforts. Varying numbers of Finishers were required on the project on a weekly basis: leading Plastic Surgeon’s management team to call in staff from other regions at times. Individual Finishers have also had to work on into the evenings or at weekends.

The scale of the project and the variety of high specification building components employed in the construction also meant that Plastic Surgeon’s operatives were called on to utilize a wide range of their repair and spraying techniques.

HIGHLIGHTS

As an existing client, Galliford Try did not require any trial work or other demonstrations; instead allowing the team of Finishers to begin wood repairwork immediately, repairing doors, joinery goods and other surfaces throughout the hotel’s guest rooms and public areas.

This was a big contract for Plastic Surgeon, carried out over a 14 week period. While in many cases, the contract involved completing ‘Smart Repairs’ – filling, smoothing back and colour matching chips and scratches suffered by doors and joinery items such as architraves – they have also made good minor damage to other common building substrates.

KEY OUTCOMES FOR CLIENT

  • Given the size of the project and the timescale for completion of the hotel, Galliford Try required the assistance of an extremely responsive and flexible finishing service, which Plastic Surgeon
    provided; along with continuing management support from the specialist’s Operations Manager.
  • This helped control the total cost of the work while providing an environmentally-friendly and sustainable service which avoided the need for large components such as doors being replaced and
    sent to landfill.

The service from Plastic Surgeon at the Resort World project has been of a very high quality; while the company has always managed to keep up with labour demands as required – even at short notice.

The operatives on site have carried out numerous repairs to varying items around the hotel which I am currently  managing: inclusive of veneered skirtings, doors, frames and architraves; all to a high standard. They have been extremely helpful in assisting me across all three floors, understanding what was required of them, as well as the nature of the task in how the project needed to be run and the high standard of quality that was required in the finished article.
