From Fine Finisher to finishing sales: Tony Plant takes on a new role

One Plastic Surgeon employee is toasting a new role at the company. Having worked for a number of years as a Finisher, Tony Plant has now been promoted to Regional Sales Manager.

Tony initially joined the firm in 2003 and embarked on a successful seven years which saw him reach the level of Operations Manager. In 2010, Tony left the business to pursue other interests, but has since returned to the fold, re-joining the company in January 2017.

In the seven intervening years, Tony took on a range of opportunities, which saw him working at a club and managing events – covering things as diverse as cricket, football, weddings and more. In his position as manager at the club, he had a staff of between 15 and 25 people to oversee, which gave him excellent people management experience.

Following four years of club management, Tony moved from his base in the North West down to the Midlands where he took on a role as a property developer. Having successfully sold the properties he’d developed during that period, Tony had a conversation with Steve Fisher, an old colleague at Plastic Surgeon and somebody he had remained friends with during his time away from the business.

Through his conversation with Steve, Tony reminisced on his time at Plastic Surgeon and, having missed the interactions and work involved, he decided to come back on board, taking up the role of Finisher once more. 

However, in the summer, an opportunity arose to join Plastic Surgeon’s sales team. Recognising the opportunity to put his wide ranging personal experience and skills to good use, Tony applied for the role.

With an in-depth knowledge of the firm’s finishing techniques and capabilities, Tony was well placed to advise potential clients on what repairs Plastic Surgeon can do. He was also well versed in management thanks to his club role and sales negotiation skills from his time as a property developer.

Having seen off dozens of rival applicants, Tony got the job and joined the sales team in early September, which now sees him covering the central belt of the UK, ranging from West Wales right through to Norfolk.

On his new sales role, Tony said: “My experience as a finisher gives me a unique insight into what we can offer as a business. If customers and clients come to me with a query about a particular job, I can use my experience to quickly give a detailed idea of what we can provide.”

He continued: “It’s only been a matter of weeks, but I already love the job I’m doing. Covering such a broad area allows me to engage with a mix of people and encounter a range of job scenarios. Having worked as an Operations Manager in the past I know what’s required, but it’s great to see it all from a new perspective. I’m really looking forward to getting stuck in as time goes on.”

In a sign of the possible success set to come, the first job that Tony quoted for, an old shopping centre in Cambridge in need of some serious restoration, he won.
