Hot tub repair
As the UK’s only national repair specialist, Plastic Surgeon is frequently called in by clients to repair components damaged during the construction process, but some very valuable items don’t even make it to site in one piece.
A company specialising in garden hot tubs had suffered a series of mishaps with its products being damaged in transit, but had no means either on site or back in its factory to make good the damage. And when it first contacted Plastic Surgeon, the salesperson who visited realised that the normal cosmetic repair techniques used by the Finishers would simply not deal with the scale of the cracks and holes.
The problem was passed to Plastic Surgeon’s R&D department where Andy Keenagh assessed the situation. He says: “It wasn’t clear how the delivery company had caused some of the cracks and holes, but the hot tub manufacturer was basically in the situation of having to scrap several units each worth thousands of pounds.
“Our existing techniques for dealing with baths and shower trays are intended to enable the Finishers to achieve a rapid repair with the units in-situ; avoiding having to remove taps, tiles etc. But here the holes were too big to stabilise them, so instead we worked on developing a method of applying more fibre-glass from the underside, before turning the hot tubs over to carry out the cosmetic repairs to their gel coat. Our hot tub repair method has saved the manufacturer the expense and waste of scrapping several units.”
