Sky’s the limit for London property repair
Unless you’ve been living on a Hebridean island without access to the media or the Internet, you will have heard how property prices have rocketed across the capital over the past couple of years; with purchasers prepared to shell out £4-500K for a bedsit or a postage stamp sized building plot in the right postcodes.
The recovery in the UK economy, coupled with other attractions of living and doing business in #london, mean the city is facing demographic as well as commercial pressures different to any other in Europe. So with a huge housing shortage and some of the highest rental prices per square foot for office space anywhere in the world, it is no surprise that developers are building up.
The Shard is of course the tallest habitable structure in the UK and some of our Finishers from Plastic Surgeon’s London Region team were amongst the first people to enjoy the views as they helped complete a restaurant and other spaces within the 309 metre tall building. But there have been several other notable sky-scrapers completed over recent times while there are plenty more in the pipeline.
Formerly known as the Kings Reach Tower and located in Southwark, the South Bank Tower is having an extra ten storeys added – taking it to a total of 41 – with the work set to create 191 luxury apartments, as well as 220,000 square feet of office space and top end retail units.
North of the Thames meanwhile, in Fenchurch Street, the so called Walkie Talkie building is nearing completion despite the problems the developers faced due to the sun reflecting off the concave main façade, scorching carpets in shops across the street and even melting the coachwork on cars.
Although Plastic Surgeon isn’t in the business of changing a building’s basic geometry, we are often called in to deal with damage to the paint finishes or factory applied coatings on fenestration systems, as well as countless other cosmetic property repairs outside or inside buildings.
What is more, there are an estimated 230 buildings of 20 storeys or more either on site or in the planning stages across the capital. With #london property repair set to rocket, we are going to have to recruit and train even more personnel for our busy London team.
