“Not a lot of people know you can repair that”
Another of your blogger’s favourite actors made his name in a film featuring a fairground – Tom Hanks quite literally grew up as a star of the big screen in “Big” where he was transformed from a teenage boy to an adult overnight, after making a wish while playing on a mysterious machine in one of the tents.
The hard truth for the people who operate leisure attractions and theme parks is that they have very little time to repair and maintain the attractions, and therefore we at Plastic Surgeon have had to be very flexible in our approach to working with them.
Most notable to date has been our involvement with Drayton Manor in the Midlands – home of Thomas Land – where the management were wondering how to deal with five years’ worth of wear and tear to the GRP that the train carriages and seats for the rides are mainly made of.
Following a demonstration carried out on one of the carriages in May, Plastic Surgeon was awarded a contract to carry out a programme of repairs, with the Finisher involved starting at 7am in the morning to avoid disruption for the visitors. Then once the park opened for the day, he moved to working on equipment that was temporarily withdrawn from service: carrying on filling, smoothing and colour matching the repairs on all the familiar characters from the books and TV episodes.
The Park Operations Manager, David Bromilow, described the repair work as “outstanding” and during phase 1 of the contract, the Finisher has restored timber, wood, foils, metal and painted concrete as well as the GRP.
I’m afraid Plastic Surgeon wouldn’t have been able to help Tom Hanks with the repairs to the oxygen system in Apollo 13, but if anyone has any spacecraft, aeroplanes, boats, trains or other types of damaged theme park rides, then please get in touch.
Plastic Surgeon can restore almost any damaged interior or exterior surface in commercial or residential buildings. Thanks to specialist training the company’s finishers are expert in repairing and fine finishing practically any material including;

- Wood and veneer repairs
