Shortlisted for a CN Specialist award

Days after receiving the UKAS accreditation under the ISO:14001:2004 environmental management system and ISO:9001:2008 quality management system, we at Plastic Surgeon are delighted to announce that yet another organization has recognized the high standard of cosmetic repair work we do.

For Construction News has shortlisted us for its Building Services and Finishing and Fit-out categories at its highly respected annual Specialists Awards 12 ceremony, where winners will be announced on the 20th March at London’s Hilton Park Lane.

Managing Director of the Cuddy Group, Mike Cuddy, whose company has also been shortlisted, put it succinctly when he said:”It is important that the work of specialist contractors is recognized year on year, as the role that we each play in projects large and small, is incredibly valuable.

“The construction industry on the whole has struggled at times during the economic downturn, but the Specialists Awards shows just how much we collectively have to shout about and be proud of.”

For our submission under the category of ‘Building Services’, Plastic Surgeon’s performance between November 2010 – 2011 had to be covered, and we needed to provide an example of one or more contracts completed between these dates that we are particularly proud of. And challenging your blogger’s instincts towards modesty, we also had to state in no more than 1000 words why we feel we should win.

The rules then asked us to provide details of our performance demonstrating client satisfaction and about our training and safety schemes, as well as growth figures – the latter covering areas such as revenue, range of customers, profitability or other relevant measures.  We further had to provide a broad outline of our plans for the future to prove our ambition.

With respect to ‘Finishing and Fit-out’, the criteria are similar; but in respect of both areas – to give the submission the best chance of success – entrants are encouraged to provide additional information: such as audit data, cost analyses and customer experience survey results, as well as documentation to help the judges to understand the nature of our highly specialized repair businesses.

The panel of judges come from all areas of the construction sector, and include industry leaders such as Paul Sheffield, Chief Executive, Kier; Kevin Fear, Head of Health & Safety Strategy, Construction Skills; Neil Pennell, Head of Sustainability & Engineering, Land Securities and Mike Donegan, Construction Director, BAM – to name just a few; so it will be a thorough examination of everybody’s merits.

Indeed, when you look at some of the other entries, you begin to realize that simply to make it onto the shortlist as a finalist, is actually a huge achievement.
