Starting on a positive note
The New Year is always a time for a little introspection; a time to look back over the last twelve months and reflect on the good and bad parts – what bits could you happily forget? What parts do you want to carry over into the next? And remember, even though you can’t change the past, as a specialist in cosmetic repair for the built environment, Plastic Surgeon can always help you put things right for the coming months.
Perhaps, like most businesses, we at Plastic Surgeon would like to put the recession behind us, for although we have grown in other sectors to compensate for the downturn in housebuilding, and had one of our best months ever during March, it has been hard to witness the job losses and lack of confidence across the construction industry as a whole.
During 2011 we have been looking to increase our workforce, and make people more aware of what we do. So as well as training several intakes of new Finishers, we also launched a new recruitment video in December. The idea being to not only make people aware of the career opportunities open to them, but also to make more construction professionals realize that, by using our services to repair damaged sinks, doors, windows and worksurfaces – glass, stone and laminate – they can save themselves a fortune on replacing building and fitting out materials. As well as the time, mess and disruption that replacement incurs.
2011 has also seen us scoop recognition nationally for the repair work we undertake at Plastic Surgeon: winning the National Recycling Award for ‘Waste Minimisation,’ as well as the British Institute of Facilities Management Award for ‘Product Innovation’ for our cosmetic building repair service.
We have additionally been recognized for our high standards of customer care. Locally, we won the 2011 Exeter Express and Echo Business Awards, in the ‘Excellence in Customer Service’ category. The judges commented that: “The winning company seemed to have considered every aspect of customer services across the business. They have invested in bespoke systems designed to make the customer experience more effective and the company more responsive. And extensive customer testimonials were provided to support their entry.”
We have worked on major fine finishing repair projects throughout the year including Mann Island, for BAM Construction and Cynon Valley Hospital for Vinci Construction. We’ve also been busy for Barratt Homes, Edinburgh City Council, and some of the leading insurance companies, to name just a few.
And as if all the above achievements are not enough for one year, we launched a new central head office booking system and were independently audited for IS0:14001 and 9001.
The success we enjoyed in 2011 is certainly going to be a hard act for Plastic Surgeon to follow, but not impossible – to end on a truly positive note, here is our ‘Statistic of the Year,’ which we aim to beat in 2012:
As of Dec 14th our cosmetic repairs had saved nearly 1,700 tonnes of waste from going to landfill. That’s roughly equivalent to 740 cubic metres of concrete, or the weight of 42,000,000 mince pies!
We at Plastic Surgeon wish you all a happy and prosperous New Year.
