We repair apples and pears
When tackling snagging, it is not unusual for us at Plastic Surgeon to get called in to repair damage done to bannisters, which has often occurred due to careless tradesmen dragging baths, toilets, doors or other large components upstairs.
The same too, though, can be said of homeowners, as well as tenants in private rented property or social housing. It is only human to err, so it is inevitable as we move things around our home that damage will occur to the areas and fixtures we pass by. But even more so to bannisters, treads and risers, as it is inevitably difficult to negotiate stairs when carrying heavy or bulky objects. And even if two people share the burden, the one leading is likely to be walking backwards.
So, whether you are a site agent looking at a deadline for handover, a manager in the affordable housing sector, or are simply a homeowner fed up with looking at your tatty stairs, it is worth calling us to come and repair any damage done to the bannisters.
Unsightly chips, dents, scratches or gouges out of painted or natural wooden hand rails and uprights make a home look uncared for. As they do for stone, marble or glass balustrades: often favoured in hotels, high class shops and commercial premises.
Our highly trained finishers can repair timber, stone and even glass and steel components, carefully filling the damaged area, sanding back to the surrounding profile, and then expertly mixing up the exact colour and finish to replicate the original. We can even copy the wood grain, or veins of colour found in marble, the silicates in sandstone – you name it, we can replicate it. Our finishers often using fine, double ‘o’ sable artist brushes if the detailing is very fine. And an increasing number of our operatives are trained in glass polishing techniques which can smooth out the very visible damage often done to transparent balustrades.
So rather than rushing off to your nearest builders merchant or DIY store to purchase expensive replacement bannister parts, think first – do you really want the disruption, mess and expense? When one of our finishers could come and repair the damage in situ; usually taking less than two hours to complete the work? Plus you can feel pride and an eco-friendly warmth that you’re not adding to our already overstretched landfill sites. Meanwhile, the money you’ve saved might well allow you to improve some other part of the interior.
