60% Increase in Fire Claims as a Result of Bonfire Night

12th November 2019

With the country celebrating bonfire night last week it’s hardly surprising that the industry reports that there is a 60% increase in fire claims during this time, the most common claims are caused by damage done by fireworks or the bonfires themselves.

Head of Insurance at Plastic Surgeon Chris Edwards says: “We see a variety of damaged items in properties caused as a result of bonfire night.  Damage to UPVC windows, fascia’s and soffits, doors and conservatories are particularly common”.

The company also reports that it also sees more serious damage, caused by larger scale house fires.  Damaged kitchen units and work tops being particularly popular repairs.

Only 16% of this damage however is irreparable.  Our experienced finishers can repair a multitude of damage from minor soot marks to more serious, distortions and large burns.

Continues Chris: “One of the most remarkable interventions our finishers make is where a UPVC profile has become distorted in shape due to heat or twisting.  By employing an electric heat gun and a great deal of experience, the finisher is able to ‘coax’ the profile back into shape, follow this with a polish and nobody would believe the condition it started in.

Chris adds: The work that our finishers can complete to smoke and heat damaged items in the home is truly fantastic.  They take the item back to its former glory quickly and effectively, at a fifth of the cost of the replacement cost and reducing the claim lifecycle by about a tenth”.

Plastic Surgeon can work alongside loss adjusters, surveyors and claims teams to assess damaged items and put an appropriate programme of works together. In addition, we are also able to provide a one stop solution, managing the entire claims process.

Concluded Chris: “We guarantee that we are able to assist insurers with driving down the costs associated with fire claims”
