Metal shelving repair

On the 100th anniversary of the Titanic sinking, Plastic Surgeon was called to the new Sea Centre museum in Southampton, built to house exhibitions and displays about the ship.

Our task was to repair a circular metal shelving system, suspended from the ceiling on steel poles, designed to show 1912 newsreel footage. Some of the metal shelves became scratched on the underside during fitting, leaving marks on the glossy red paint that would be visible to people walking under it. Our Finishers prepped and filled the damage to rebuild the surface; before smoothing it back ready for re-spraying. This was a tricky job in that we were working ‘upside down’ on the underside of the shelves, some three metres off the ground on platforms, but the client was very happy with the end result.
