The challenges
This was a time sensitive challenge for one of the Finishers from Plastic Surgeon’s Eastern Region, assigned to respray the yellow painted wooden doors and drawer fronts in a new colour. He had just the one day, midweek, when the surgery is normally closed to the public to carry out the work on a dozen doors and double that number of drawer fronts.
The highlights
He undertook careful hand sanding in order to minimize preparation time and having protected surrounding areas, used the smaller of the spray guns which Finishers carry in order to reduce the amount of paint entering the atmosphere. The Finisher built up a succession of four to five coats of Plastic Surgeon’s hard-wearing System 20 paint finish in a colour mix to prevent the original yellow bleeding through; and to achieve an even finish.
Key outcomes
- an economic alternative to changing either the entire units or the cupboard and drawer fronts.
- delivered within the time constraints.
- achieved the desired aesthetic effect.
