Cosmetic repair service scoops FM award

Cosmetic repair service scoops FM award

The British Institute of Facilities Management (BIFM) has recognized the valuable work we do at Plastic Surgeon by making us the winner of its ‘Innovation in Products’ category at the BIFM Awards 2011, held at the Grosvenor House Hotel in London.

The awards are the biggest and most prestigious networking event within the UK’s FM calendar, and are designed to celebrate the increasingly strategic profile of facilities management by highlighting the key role it plays in the success of public and private sector organisations.  They recognize more than just the work that facility managers do; they identify the evolution of the profession within the construction and property markets – so we felt absolutely delighted to accept the accolade presented to us.

Below is a complimentary excerpt from the BIFM website, which describes the organization’s view of our work and the award we received:

“Simple concept of cosmetic repairs and fine finishing services, developed from the automotive industry and introduced into the service sector.  Plastic Surgeon has innovatively taken these products and developed it into a market leading customer offer. The range is endless, the ability to effect cosmetic repairs on virtually any product in the built environment.  The potential is huge, the benefits likewise both in terms of cost, minimizing disruption, rapid respond and fix times and environmental benefits…. “don’t skip it… fix it !”

“Underpinning all of this is a fantastic customer support model creating a mobile repair solution which models perfectly into industry ways of working.  A truly innovative solution, which has massive potential.”

Praise indeed!

The judging criteria were quite detailed, with a lot of points we needed to meet in order to qualify for entry.  We had to provide a clear description of our product offering, including how it is used and its scope, as well as its relevance within the industry.  It was important too that we demonstrated the need for the product and how it aligns with business strategy; plus we had to show the innovative nature of our work.

Importantly, Plastic Surgeon also had to demonstrate how our product innovation has been integrated either into a business offer or into a specific project, clearly showing the design and effectiveness of the implementation programme.

Measurements of success had to be shown in the following areas, ranging from customer/end user, financial and environmental perspectives.

Lastly, we had to provide a business case for future investment, including an outline of future applications, so there was quite a lot to be considered before we presented our entry for this particular award.

But, based on the back of the other quite impressive awards ceremonies that we have been involved with so far this year – including as winner of the ‘Waste Minimisation Award’ at the 2011 National Recycling Awards, and being a finalist at the Construction News Awards 2011 in the ‘Best use of Technology Category,’ we at Plastic Surgeon felt more than up for this one. Thanks to a lot of hard work by management, marketing, IT and of course our Finishers, the win was made a reality.
