Plastic Surgeon Puts Finishing Touches To Famous Pier

The final push to complete the reconstruction of Weston-super-Mare’s famous pier, ready for its public reopening after a catastrophic fire – saw the cosmetic repair specialist, Plastic Surgeon involved on site working for various contractors involved in the restoration work.

Up to four of the company’s highly skilled finishers were actually employed on the pier at any one time from early August 2010, up until the opening event on October 28 2010; assisting contractors on-site.

Plastic Surgeon’s operatives were tasked with repairing or snagging a wide variety of building components, both inside and out for the contractors; responding to all the typical types of damage that can occur during the build process. This included filling and rubbing down a variety of veneered timber surfaces such as doors, skirtings and panelling. The wood grain then had to be painted in by hand and lacquered to protect it.

The finishers also repaired the inner and outer frames to a number of aluminium windows, while several of the pier’s glass fibre column casings had also been chipped and scratched; requiring careful remediation.

Plastic Surgeon also repaired some joints which had opened on the main bar counter which the company had prefabricated. One of the finishers spent close to a week carefully filling and then smoothing the mitres and other joints around the long L-shaped MDF surface, which had originally been spray painted in the factory.  Finally the high gloss finish was colour matched on site, and the areas of damage sprayed in so as to be undetectable.
