We are very proud at Plastic Surgeon to announce that we have won yet another award, this time under the category of ‘Waste Minimisation,’ earned thanks to our repair rather than replace policy.
The accolade comes from the 2011 National Recycling Awards, and our sustainable working practice meant that we beat off some tough competition from companies such as Costain, Crystal Clear Window Works and the London Borough of Hackney, as well as a joint venture by Skanska and Balfour Beatty. The results were announced at a glittering awards ceremony on the 14th July at the London Hilton Hotel, Park Lane.
Rob Mouser, Managing Director for Plastic Surgeon, said: “We are delighted to have won such a prestigious award. By taking on the ‘snagging’ or damage inevitably caused by various contractors during the build process, and helping to repair and maintain surfaces in existing buildings, our team works to avoid the need to replace damaged items, thereby reducing the huge volume of material sent to landfill every week.
“Last year we saved 64,938 items from landfill and carried out 208,221 repairs: so this award gives us credible recognition for our commitment to sustainability.”
By carrying out cosmetic repairs on building sites, across commercial and domestic buildings, Plastic Surgeon assists builders and contractors to improve their waste management dramatically while staying in the remit of the law. Legislation, such as the legally enforceable requirement of Site Waste Management Plans for any project valued at over £300,000, means that a long-term strategy to repair rather than replace will inevitably become an important part of all contractors’ waste management strategy.
Our expert repair and fine finishing service is increasingly being utilised by new sectors such as social housing, facilities management and the insurance industry. For these companies – many of them cash-strapped, are seeing the value in reducing their waste while at the same time, making their money stretch further.
Furthermore, our VisibilITy software provides housebuilders, developers, facilities managers and other customers with full information and control, from quotations right through to invoicing and the weights of waste saved. The in-house team of IT specialists has designed highly sophisticated, yet simple to use systems that provide clients with details of all their repair projects. Helping them, in other words, to finely manage their site waste programmes.
The VisibilITy online reporting system provides comprehensive data, including detailed statistics on landfill savings, cost per repair and site specific information.
A spokesperson from the National Recycling Awards said of Plastic Surgeon: “The judges loved that this was a business all about repairing rather than replacing materials – and saving waste in the process.”
